Under the Gun / Phone-Txt Etiquette

Sorry, this has to be a really fast one. I only have a few minutes before I have to jump in the car to race down to Santa Maria to be out at the airport and talk about Holiday travel.

I have been asked by separate people several times in the last week about cell/txt etiquette. How should you craft a note, do people read them, what does it mean when they don’t respond? Having confronted all the issues myself I am going to give you my sage advice that will land me on Oprah:

* People check their phones all the time. Seriously people check their heartbeat less. It is more likely that you’ll notice a new message than any sign of serious illness. So, when you send a message you can assume it has been received. I know there are excuses like, ‘my battery died’, which is true it can happen. However again people are generally so worried about missing messages that they make sure to charge the phone. Buy this excuse only occasionally.

* What does it mean when they don’t get back to you? It does mean something. You know that book ‘He’s just not that into you’ It make millions on this premise. This blog will make less, but it doesn’t make it any less true.

* How do you craft a note? Be direct. You are frustrated, say so. You want to go out. Say it. You are busy, say that…don’t go text silent. Text silent is a message. So, are your standard toss away phrases. That means, LOL TTYL really means, ‘I honestly can’t be bothered to tell you anything meaningful but I still want to be occasional pals’.

You can make donations to my book fund at any time.
